The UK's coronavirus death toll has risen by ten in the last 24 hours.

That puts Wednesday's official overall toll across all settings including hospitals, care homes, and the community at 41,514.

NHS England reported seven deaths, Scotland reported its first fatality in more than week, and Northern Ireland confirmed two new fatalities.

Wales reported no new deaths in the past 24 hours.

All ten died in the UK's hospitals.

And the number of cases has risen by 1,508, with the seven-day rolling average continuing to slowly increase.

On Tuesday, the UK-wide toll rose by three.?

Compared to previous Wednesdays in lockdown, the figure rose by 16 on August 26, and by one on August 19, and by seven on August 12.

Scotland reported its first fatality today in a week, as rising infections there prompted First Minister Nicola Sturgeon to place Glasgow, East Renfrewshire and West Dunbartonshire under fresh restrictions this week.

A further 156 new cases were reported in Scotland in the last 24 hours, taking the total number to 20,788.

Of those new cases, 86 were reported in Greater Glasgow and in Clyde, where restrictions where reintroduced last night.

Ms Sturgeon has said it appears the infections were largely being transmitted in people's homes.

As a result residents of affected areas have been barred from visiting in each other's homes.

Local lockdowns were set to lift in Greater Manchester boroughs Bolton and Trafford today.

However restrictions remained in a last-minute government u-turn under pressure from local leaders concerned about sustained infection rates.

It came as virus rates in Bolton leapt from 18.4 per 100,000 people in the week to August 22, to 59.1 in the week to August 29, with 170 new cases - making it the second worst in the country for infections rates.

The rate in Trafford also rose, from 19.4 to 35.4, with 84 new cases.

New cases nationwide have been tracking at more than 1,000 a day for more than a week now.

And there were 109 new patients admitted to hospital in the past 24 hours

A total 797 patients remain in hospital with Covid-19 across the UK, including 82 who are on ventilators.
