It’s one of the most popular apps around the world, and if you use Instagram, you may have noticed a major redesign rolling out this week.

The redesign gives the Reels and Shop tabs a more central role on the home page.

Adam Mosseri, Head of Instagram, explained: “Today we’re announcing some big changes to Instagram – a Reels tab and a Shop tab.

“The Reels tab makes it easier for you to discover short, fun videos from creators all over the world and people just like you.

“The Shop tab gives you a better way to connect with brands and creators and discover products you love.”

Instagram has rolled out a major redesign that gives the Reels and Shop tabs a more central role on the home page

While Instagram hopes the change will put the focus on its creators, it seems that many users are less than impressed with the redesign.

One user said: “We all need to band together and demand that the Instagram redesign is awful. Put the search button back there where it belongs.”

Another wrote: “I’m so annoyed by the Instagram redesign. I don’t want to see so many Reels. Hell, I don’t want to see ANY Reels. I just wanna look at pics of people & places & things I like. Stop making me watch videos, man.”

And one joked: “instagram you will not see heaven for this redesign.”

This is the first major redesign for a while, and Instagram didn’t take the decision to change the layout lightly, according to Mr Mosseri.

He added: “How people create and enjoy culture has changed, and the biggest risk to Instagram is not that we change too fast, but that we don’t change and become irrelevant.

“We’re excited about the new design and believe it gives the app a much-needed refresh, while staying true to our core value of simplicity. We’ll continue listening to your feedback so we can keep improving Instagram for you.”
